Geelong Ironman Event    18th Feb. 2018
All of the volunteer riders gathered at the Eastern Beach check point by 6:30 am, we had 19 Geelong members, 2 Werribee members and 1 family member that put themselves out for the Branch at this, our biggest fund raising event.

The day was perfect weather for the race and competitors, but the crowds and number of competitors seemed to be down on previous years.
Most of the riders were on the road with their allocated pillions by 7:30am and the few remaining riders enjoyed the views on the day whilst waiting for their pillions to arrive. The riders covered from Eastern Gardens to Point Henry and to Curlewis and back. They either had a Race Official, a Media photographer, a Bike Mechanic or a First Aider as a pillion.

The competitors ranged in skill level from ordinary “Joe Blow” competitors through to Olympic and World Champion athletes. It is surprising at the speed and endurance of these elite competitors, considering that the event is a 1.9 klm swim, a 90 klm bike ride then a 21.1 klm run.

I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank the members that volunteered to help out, and hopefully you will step forward again next year, but what would be even better is a few more members volunteer to help the Branch and your fellow members.
