Twilight Ride,   Sun 10th March 2019
We gathered at Waurn Ponds on a cool breezy late afternoon/early evening, for a 5:30 pm departure. There were 26 participants on 21 machines.
Mal Stapleton, led us off at 5:45 pm and we headed west to Moriac via. Anglesea Rd,  Mt Duneed Rd and Cape Otway Rd.  From Moriac we travelled Hendy Main Rd to Vickerys Rd and on to Grundies Rd, past the Bellbrae Resort and back onto Anglesea Rd. We turned right at the round–a-bout and travelled to the popular tourist town of Torquay where we looked back at all the people looking at us from the open air restaurants along the foreshore.
From Torquay, it was across to Breamlea, then 13th Beach and into Barwon Heads, when we turned right at the round-a-bout opposite the Ocean Grove Riverside camping ground, some people thought that our illustrious leader was “leading us up the garden path”, BUT NO, Mal knew what he was doing.  We travelled through the lovely tourist town of Ocean Grove and along Grubb Rd to the Queenscliff Hwy, then turned left at Banks Rd, then another left at Swan Bay Rd (I am glad that they have laid asphalt in the last 12 months), from here it was back to Grubb Rd and “dog legged” back onto Swan Bay Rd, to come out behind the Adventure Park. Then it was back into Ocean Grove via Wallington Rd, and finished the interesting ride at the Ocean Grove Bowling Club at 7:15 pm.  Thanks Mal for great leadership and a good job done by Patt C. as Tail End Charley.
The meal at the Bistro was good value and a pleasant setting, once everyone (there were now 31 of us) was seated. Everyone seemed to enjoy the night and the company, Mal has already booked us in for next year. Most of us left the Club by 8:30 and rode home in nice, still and mild, darkness; also it is good to find out how good your bike lights’ really are.
Thanks Mal for a successful Social evening.
Cheers,
Gentle.
