Midweek ride for lunch Wednesday 12 May 2021
Midweek Ride Report by Graham Aitken

After a couple of cold wet days it was pleasing to have a sunny day with no rain forecast for our May Midweek Ride. Fifteen riders, plus Geoff L (who was convalescing after a mishap earlier this month) in his car, met at Waurn Ponds. Gentle gave the briefing and Mark volunteered to be tail-end Charlie. Prince Philip minus Tanya joined us. A welcome to Grassy who was on a week’s leave, plus Terry on his old 750 Kawasaki. A warm welcome to all the regulars including 2 Peters, 2 Johns, Greg, Mal, Bob, Jules, Graeme and Phil H.
After waiting an extra minute to see if Noel was joining us, no appearance. Our first stop was Anglesea for morning tea. We made our way through Ceres, Gnarwarre over the Princes Hwy then via Noble Road, Forrest Road around the back of Anglesea arriving at the shops in the main Shopping Strip. Riders split up and had coffee in the many coffee shops.
After about 30 minutes Gentle sounded the mount up call when there was a commotion outside one of the Coffee Shops. The Coffee Shop owner was going crook at one of our Riders who committed the heinous offence of buying his coffee at another Shop and not being able to find a rubbish bin left the empty cup on this Coffee Shop owner’s table. Not sure how serious the Shop owner was however Peter removed the offending coffee cup. After refreshments we headed towards Torquay. Skirted our way round the back of Torquay then via Barwon Heads, Ocean Grove to Clifton Springs.
Gentle was doing an excellent job leading the ride and was nearly at our destination when he had a woopsy. Checking to see if the crew were following he rode on the incorrect side of the divided road, then wondered why nobody was following him. A quick correction and we were back on track. No harm, all sorted. Gentle offered himself the Black Duck Award for his efforts.
Our lunch was at the Clifton Springs Golf Club. We were met there by Noel and Josh who had made their own way to the Club. The Golf Club is an excellent venue with magnificent views. The $10 lunches very popular and excellent value.
After lunch all riders made their own way home with Prince Philip having to be back in Colac for work.
Our Midweek Ride was only a short ride (130kms to lunch), however, all riders had an enjoyable day with wide grins on their faces. Thankyou Gentle for leading the Ride and Mark for tail-end duties.

Two ideal quotes from the Anglesea coffee barista .....
1 "No Coffee For You!!!!" (whilst not actually said, it will apply to [name with-held] should he ever go back again)
2 "I am like a drone - I see everything!" (actually said)

"Name withheld" says he wouldn't go to the "drones' Cafe if it was the last Cafe in Anglesea, unless he had a rubbish bin installed outside the front of his salubrious establishment!!
