Sunday ride to Melton. 24th of Sept 2023
Our group left Waurn Ponds Maccas on time with eight bikes and two pillions.
The day started off cool but warmed up quickly as the clear skies let the sunshine in and we were treated with perfect riding weather all day.
Our tallest rider and our shortest rider.
8YO Harvey on his first Ulysses ride.
We travelled along the Ring Rd to Bacchus Marsh Rd. Followed Bacchus Marsh Rd through Balliang and on to the Bacchus Marsh- Balliang Rd.
After Bacchus Marsh West Golf Course, we turned left on to the twisties on Ingliston Rd though to Ballan where we stopped for morning tea.
After some coffee and treats from the local Ballan bakery, we rode to Greendale then to Myrniong, then on to the Western Freeway into North Bacchus Marsh.
The sun was out in full force and breeze was gentle and warm.
From North Bacchus Marsh we travelled up Gisborne Rd to Diggers Rest Rd, past the Mernimu Reservoir.
Turned left at Coburn Rd, past the Melton Airport into Melton for lunch at Macs Hotel.
Lunch was delicious with fast and friendly service.
Everyone was very happy with their meals and there was plenty of banter and friendly conversation.
Harvey (8YO) Had a great day with the Ulysses and loved his pasta for lunch!
With our bellies full, our group headed south along Exford Rd to the Werribee River crossing then turned west along Exford Rd.
We followed the scenic roads west into Glenmore Rd, through Rowsley and onto the steep climb of the “Lover’s Leap” escarpment then to the Anakie – Ballan Rd.
Passing under the massive sweeping blades of the wind turbines at the top of “Lovers Leap", we continued south through Anakie and finished at Bell Post Hill.
Total distance 242 kms. A wonderful ride.
Riders: Gentle (Ride Leader)
James and 8YO son Harvey. (Tail end Charlie)
Raf & Sandra, Peter Barclay, Russell Rankin, Dennis Petersen, Marty Owen and visitor “Fols”.
We also had Ray Box pop into Waurn Ponds to see us off and to give one of his Harley’s a bit of Vitamin D while the sun was out.
Photos by James and Peter.
Thank you to Gentle for organising and leading another fantastic day on two wheels with great company.
Every time we ride with Gentle we learn a new road!
Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine everyone. See you all on the next ride.
Cheers James
