Midweek ride to Gisborne 12th July
Graham Aitken led a great ride in cold but sunny conditions. There were five "Peters" present, can you pick them all?
Peter Boer's report below:
Nice clear, crisp, cold, frosty morning in Meredith. By the time I got to Maccas at Waurn Ponds it was a little warmer.
Ride leader Graham gave the obligatory pre ride chat to the other 15 riders, and then we took off. Up through Ceres and across to Bakers bridge road, we crossed the Moorabool River a few times, zigzagging back and to the Midland highway, ending up at Anakie, via De Motts road for smoko.
On the road again up the Ballan road, turning right onto Glenmore road (aka Lovers leap) and ending up at Bacchus Marsh, where some riders fuelled their bikes. Thinking it was nearly noon, I thought we would go straight to Gisborne for lunch. Oh no, Graham was sticking to the game plan! So it was up along the old highway over the Pentland Hills, through Mryniong, Greendale, Blackwood, Trentham, Tylden, Woodend and approached Gisborne from the north side of town. Needless to say the stomach was fair grumbling by this time as it was a fair while since breakfast. We stopped at “Jolly Miller” for lunch, pretty good eatery. Don’t the old farts know where to find good tucker!
A few of the riders headed off a bit earlier. Graham led the ride via Toolern Vale, through the outskirts of Bacchus Marsh, Balliang and back to Anakie where the ride finished. Thank you to Graham for putting the ride together, and Peter, for doing the TEC duties.
A great days ride, weather cool but sunny, some 290k ridden and included 2 of the region’s corkscrew hairpin bend roads. How good can it get??
