Overnighter to Great Western, 22 July 2023

On Saturday the 22nd July 2023 about 12 members of the Geelong Ulysses Group met at Maccas Waurn Ponds for our overnight trip to Great Western. There were 10 on bikes and 2 who drove. James volunteered for tailend Charlie duties.
We headed off at 9am and travelled along the Colac Road, then along Cochrans Road to Ceres. Made our way over to the Hamilton Hwy to Inverleigh. Waiting for us there were Sue and Dave. We travelled through the twisties to Shelford. Left through Rokewood stopping at Skipton for a toilet break. Our editor Stan joined us there.
We then turned right at Skipton to Beaufort. Bunch was enjoyed at Beaufort. From Beaufort we travelled through Ararat arriving at our accommodation at the Great Western Hotel/Motel about 1.30pm.
Free time to 2.45pm when the Shuttle Bus drove us to the Seppelts Winery for a tour.
The tour was very informative showing us through the underground tunnels.
The bus returned us to the Hotel. Several of the group splurged and dined at the Winery. The rest of us ate at the Hotel. The meals were reasonably priced and delicious.
I returned to Geelong alone in the morning as I was visiting friends in Ballarat.
A great weekend was had by all. I think in total there were about 30 people on the overnighter. A big thank you to Mal who did an excellent job organizing the trip.
